Background: Consider the social credit system seen in Black Mirror’s “Nosedive” or the one
already implemented in China.
A complete essay will address the following—feel free to use this as an outline:
Thesis:
Do you support the implementation of a social credit system? Why/why not?
Briefly explain what a social credit system is. (1 paragraph max or include as part of the
introduction)
Analyze Winner’s argument for why artifacts have politics. Explain whether you agree or
disagree with social constructivism. (2-3 paragraphs)
a)
If you agree, then analyze the political properties of the social credit system.
b)
If you disagree, then defend your theory of technology relations by analyzing the
social credit system as an example (neutrality, determinism, or autonomy)
Explain why you support or resist the implementation of a social credit system.
(1 paragraph)
Acknowledge opposition: What is the strongest reason for why someone might disagree
with you? Respond to this objection in support of your view. (1-2 paragraphs)
