Research Paper: Topics should be about LATIN AMERICA’S economy, politics, news, or other areas. This should be an academic paper on a sufficiently narrow subject. Student should avoid choosing a topic that is excessively broad.
Some EXAMPLES of papers are: Eva Perón’s role in Argentina Politics; Religious practices of the Maya; the Raftafari in Jamaica; Dominican Writers in New York City; The Lava Jato corruption scandal in Brazil in 2014-2018; Human and Indigenous Rights in Guatemala; Trump and NAFTA; Mexican migration to the United States: past and present; The legal status of Puerto Rico; Che Guevara and the Cuban Revolution; What will happen to Cuban Revolution after 2019; Music and religion in the Caribbean; Santería In Cuba; Octavio Paz; Junot Díaz; Isabel Allende; Magic Realism in García Márquez; New Latin American writers in the 21st century; Latin American music in the world; The Pinochet legacy in Chile; The Fujimori Legacy in Peru; Women in Ecuadorian politics; Evo Morales and Bolivia; Why has Haiti fallen behind, The Grenada invasion; Women and the Mexican revolution; The Sandinista Revolution; U.S. Policy towards Latin America since September 11; women presidents in Latin America; Recent Free Trade Initiatives in the Americas; Venezuela after Chávez; Latin America and Trump; Internet start- ups in Latin America.; Central American maras.
The possibilities are endless. Students should start thinking early in the semester about their research paper. Suggestions on the paper: proof read it, correct typos, run-on sentences and badly structured sentences; structure it well; separate sections with subtitles; make sure you have a good intro; discuss what motivated you to write the paper; have a good conclusion, don’t just summarize it in one paragraph, spell out what you learned, what do you take with you after having completed this project.
